Mainboard Model TA790GX 128M (0x2DC - 0x1CBBD9A0) I crunched the log out quick so you all can see what i am seeing I use that exclusively in audio amps and supplys and never have had a problem but the silver is "supposed" to be better.īottom line im trying to figure if the sensor may be getting funky, or if i have a real problem. Im not that crazy about the ultra gel, i prefer GC electronics z9 white silicone myself. I originally posted a tip here on tpu about the southbridge sink spacer not being positioned right and not allowing contact with the chip back in late feb early march-ish. the norm for biostar is the usual stale wafer of not very sticky silicone. Since my original post, i opened the case, pulled the cpu cooler and cleaned and put a fresh layer of ultra sink gel on it, and im about ready to do the same to the nb and sb, but that means pulling the mobo as you well know.īack when i built this rig, i usually pull both nb and sb sinks before i ever run a mobo and do the same. Ironically, everything is running perfect other than this. I tried several before settling on this one. Both micro atx versions of the 780 and 790 ran hot as hell, which is one of the reasons i switched to this board. When biostar did this ver of the 790 they beefed up the NB sink considerably compared to the micro atx version with the same chip. To the touch, its not what i would call excessively hot, and ive been at this a while, but it is plenty warm. I also checked the helpfiles for speedfan and everything i read says the same.
Now it says 89c for temp 1 which according to the gods at amd is supposed to be the northbridge. I backed everything down to stock and started over To the best of my knowledge and research the temp in question here is the 790gx northbridge. Thanks paulieg for coming to my aid here.Īccording to coretemp all four cores are at or near 31c and floating around normally.
Im open for ideas here guys- help- please. While i was typing this post i got a balloon warning that said something is wrong with your cpu fan- shutdown at once.

portable beckman temp probe says all is alive and well and running about normal. In the past, some ati chipsets have had temp sensor problems so im wondering if a sensor went bad, or WTF? to the touch, everything feels normal for this rig. When i checked today all was typical and within limits except the TMP In 1 which seems to be frozen at 95c and not fluctuating like the rest of the unit. it has been running flawlessly and is one of the best computers ive ever owned. I have been running it oc'd at 2.6 g (Normal is 2.5) with hyper transport oc'd to 2200mhz-ive been running the side port memory at 533mhz with voltage set to follow the ddr which is set at 2.20 v, ever since it was built. this is a biostar ta790gx 128m mobo with a amd 9850 black edition on it and 8gb of corsair dominator 1066 mhz ram. After doing a fresh reinstall of vista 64 today, for some reason i decided to check the running parameters by installing cpuz and speedfan and a the amd overclock utility.
